Laney LFR: Choosing the Right FRFR
Share
Designed for modelers ( Helix, Quad Cortex, Fractal, Headrush… ), the speakers Laney LFRs offer a Full Range / Flat Response rendering faithful to your IRs and presets. This guide helps you choose the right format depending on your use: rehearsal, club scene, large stage or backline.
FRFR: Why is this ideal with a multi-effects unit?
An FRFR speaker reproduces the sound exactly as you built it in the modeler. (amp + speaker/IR + effects), without guitar amp coloration. Result: what you hear on stage corresponds to what the front panel receives, and your presets remain consistent from one location to another.
Key points to remember about the LFR range
- Wideband rendering (HP + compression engine) for IR and transient clarity.
- Convenient connectivity : combo input, DI output, Link/Thru, Aux (Bluetooth depending on model).
- Formats from 10" to 4×12" to adapt to volume, projection and transport.
Quick comparison
| Model | Format | Typical use | Strengths |
|---|---|---|---|
| LFR-110 | 1×10" + 1" comp | Nomad / home studio / small live | Compact, lightweight, sometimes Bluetooth, tilt-back |
| LFR-112 | 1×12" + 1" comp | Standard scene / projection | More bass, better dispersion, DI out |
| LFR-212 | 2×12" + 1" comp | Large platforms / headroom | Power, projection, stability in the mix |
| LFR-412 | 4×12" + 1" comp | Strong backline / “stack” sensations | Internal IR/USB (depending on version), large capacity, wheels |
Tip: acoustic drummer + strong bassist = aim for at least 12" (often 2×12" ).

- Excellent compromise between size and transport.
LFR-212 (2×12")
- Headroom and dispersion for large stages .
- 2×12" + 1" comp, DI, robust.

Useful settings (starting point)
- IR : for cleans/crunch, try 1×12 or 2×12 open back ; for high-gain, 4×12 closed.
- EQ : low cut 70–90 Hz, smooth 3–4 kHz if bright, smooth shelf >8 kHz if dull.
- Placement : avoid pointing the speaker directly into your ear at 50 cm; a slight tilt-back helps.
- Front of house : use the DI out of the LFR for a clean and coherent signal.
